How do you revise without using revision to fight the day?
When an event still carries a strong charge, revision can become another way of arguing with it. I am interested in the practical distinction between gently accepting the revised end and repeatedly trying to erase the evidence. What tells you that the imaginal act is complete enough to leave alone?

Completion feels like the revised scene is the last meaningful word on the event. If I repeat it from fear, I pause; if I can recall it with relief, I let it be.
That “last meaningful word” phrasing helps. It keeps revision focused on occupying the preferred result instead of monitoring whether the old memory vanished.
